Coimbatore: The Commissioner of Police, Coimbatore City, Karan Singha, has announced that there would be traffic diversions in the city on Thursday (August 31) in view of Vinayaka idols immersion processions. According to a release issued here, the first immersion procession will start from Thernilai Thidal on Raja Street at 10.30 a.m. and will wind its way via Raja Street, Uppara Street, Thomas Street, Range Gowder Street, Sukrawarpet Thyagi Kumaran Street, Idayar Street and Karuppa Gounder Street. When the procession reaches KG Street, vehicles on Vysial Street and Sullivan Street will be diverted via Perur Bypass Road, NH Road to reach Ukkadam and take the Selvapuram Bypass Road. When the procession reaches Gandhipark, vehicles on Thadagam road will be diverted via Thiruvenkataswamy Road. The stretch between Gandhipark and Muthannankulam will remain closed for traffic. The second procession will start from VKK Menon Road at 3.30 p.m. and will pass through 100-ft Road, North Coimbatore flyover, Chintamani, Brookebond Road, Devangapet Road, Flower Market, Range Gowder Street, Sukrawarpet, Thyagi Kumaran Street, Idayar Street, Karuppa Gounder Street, Vysial Street, Sullivan Street, Gandhipark, Subramaniam Road, Venkatakrishna Road to reach Muthannankulam. From 2 p.m. onwards vehicles entering Coimbatore city via Sathyamangalam Road on reaching 100-ft Road will be diverted via Chinnasamy Naidu Road. Vehicles entering the city via Mettuppalayam Road, will be diverted via ARC, Sivananda Colony, 100-ft Road, Sathy Road Junction and would have to enter Chinnasamy Naidu Road. When the procession reaches the new flyover, vehicles entering via Thadagam Road will be diverted via Cowley Brown Road, Mettuppalayam Road, ARC and Sivananda Colony. Similarly, vehicles entering the city from Perur will be diverted via Perur Bypass Road and Ukkadam. Vehicles proceeding from Ukkadam via Flower Market, Mettuppalayam Road will be diverted on Oppanakkara Street at Variety Hall Road junction to reach the Avanashi Road flyover and from there they can take any road except Brooke Bond Road. When the procession reaches Sukrawarpet, traffic from Gandhipark via Sukrwarpet and Old Flyover will be diverted via Three Posts and DB Road in R.S. Purm. The third procession will wind its way from Theppakulam Maidan at 4 p.m. and go through Lingappa Chetty Street and when it reaches Devangapet Street, vehicles on Mettuppalayam Road towards Sukrawarpet Junction will be diverted via Gurudwara Road. When the procession reaches Range Gowder Street (flower market area), vehicles from Old Flyover towards Sukrawarpet will be diverted at NH Road - Mill Road junction. Vehicles from Ukkadam proceeding via Flower Market, Mettuppalayam Road can take the Oppanakkara Street, Variety Hall, Old flyover, Brooke Bond Road and reach Chintamani junction. When the procession reaches Sukrawarpet junction, vehicles from Gandhipark towards Avanashi Road old flyover will have to take diversion at three posts via DB Road. When the procession reaches Thyagi Kumaran Street, Idayar Street, Karuppa Gounder Street, vehicles on either side of Vysial Street can take the Perur bypass road and also the NH Road to reach Ukkadam and then take the bypass road. When the procession reaches Sullivan Street via Thadagam road, vehicles will have to take the DB Road, Thiruvenkataswamy Road and Brooke Bond Road. Motorists are requested to plan their schedule accordingly and cooperate with the police in ensuring smooth and peaceful conduct of the Chathurthi celebrations.

Amid tight police security, the procession of nearly 250 Vinayaka idols went off peacefully on the streets of Tirupur on Tuesday. The procession organised by the Hindu Munnani began from three places such as new bus stand on Perumanallur Road, Government Hospital and Alangadu. The decorated idols were taken on various streets to Andipalayam canal on Dharapuram Road, 15 km from here.
