NEW DELHI: Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president Harsh Vardhan has demanded that the Sheila Dikshit Government call an emergency one-day session of the State Assembly to save the citizens of the Capital from sealing and bulldozers. Dr. Vardhan said that with only 72 hours left for sealing to restart on a large scale in the city, the Delhi Government should act to save the additional constructions, shops and commercial premises from being razed all over the city. Describing as "evasive" the statement of Union Urban Development Minister S. Jaipal Reddy that before September 15 people of Delhi would be given relief from sealing by amending the Master Plan, Dr. Vardhan said while on the one hand such statements were being issued, on the other the MCD has again started sealing and demolitions in Delhi. Dr. Vardhan said the Centre was issuing hollow statements and as such there was a need to call an emergency session of the Assembly so that a unanimous resolution could be adopted to appeal to the Centre and the Supreme Court to provide relief to the people from sealing and demolitions in the future.
