NEW DELHI: Concerned over non-utilisation of funds under various schemes, Rural Development Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Wednesday asked the States to speed up the pace of utilisation of resources and ensure that 60 per cent of the funds was spent by September end, so as to become eligible for the next instalment. The funds are provided to States under the Accelerated Rural Water Supply Programme, National Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance Programme, Swajaldhara, Total Sanitation Programme and under the 12th Finance Commission. Reviewing the performance of various programmes of the Department of Drinking Water Supply in 11 States and three Union Territories at a secretary-level meeting, Mr. Singh said it had generally been felt that the pace of utilisation by almost all the States was slow. On the status of the Total Sanitation Campaign, he said it was encouraging in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
