Online registration for domestic helps in Saudi Arabia

Gulfround-up

Dubai: In an attempt to end growing cases of maid abuses in Saudi Arabia, the India embassy in Riyadh will introduce an online registration for domestic help.

Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia M.O.H. Farook says he has urged New Delhi to make maids' registration compulsory.

``Prospective employers of Indian maids in Saudi Arabia have been told to obtain permission from the Indian embassy in Riyadh for their recruitment,'' he said.

Mr. Farook told the Federation of Kerala Associations in Saudi Arabia recently that the rules were that the maids should be above 40 years and offered a minimum salary of SR1,000 (local currency).

But there are cases of violation of the contract with many of them receiving only SR500. — UNI
