VISAKHPATNAM : University of Mysore has signed a memorandum of understanding with Indo American Institutions, recognised since 2002 as its outreach campus, to introduce of new courses.

Short-term courses

After signing the MoU, Vice-Chancellor J. Shashidhara Prasad told reporters on Wednesday they were happy to have student and faculty exchange programmes with Indo American Institutions. The Indo American group has its campus at Sankaram near Anakapalle.

As part of the MoU, the group will introduce PG courses in biochemistry, biotechnology, information technology, food science and nutrition. In addition , a Centre for Learning and Development will be set up to offer short-term programmes with a duration of two to six days to students, teachers and other professionals.

Technical supervision

Group chairman V. Pujari said for all the courses offered under technical supervision of experts, University of Mysore would offer the certificates. He said their institutions were offering MBA, Ph.D and hotel management courses.

University's objective

Prof. Prasad said the objective of University of Mysore to recognise institutes with good infrastructure and experience as outreach campuses was to enable all sections pursue research and higher education. He said as of now, they had recognised a dozen such campuses.

To a question, he said the university was committed to discouraging the fraud being committed by unrecognised foreign universities by taking gullible youth for a ride through shops set up by them in various parts of the country. Known as `single room universities,' he cited how a branch set up by Adam Smith University of the United States at Mysore had no recognition in the US and the Europe. He said it had obtained recognition from Liberia (Africa).
