7,000 litres of spirit seized

Kasaragod: The Sales Tax authorities seized 7,000 litres of spirit from a lorry at the Padiyathaduka checkpost here in the early hours of Wednesday. The spirit stored in 198 containers was concealed under wooden planks.

A total of 7,440 litres of hooch was seized in a joint raid conducted by the police and excise at 20 centres in Alappuzha district on Wednesday. Excise officials of Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta and Kollam and police personnel in the district conducted the raid. Gas stoves and other equipment used for distilling liquor were seized. The excise has registered five cases.
