BANGALORE: Anganwadi workers and assistants in the State, who are working on an honorarium, are likely to get some retirement benefits, thanks to a scheme being worked out by the Department of Women and Child Welfare. Women and Child Development Minister H.K. Kumaraswamy presspersons here on Tuesday that the Government would fix the retirement age for anganawadi workers as well as assistants, numbering 51,000 each. They were now getting Rs. 1,550 and Rs. 750 respectively a month after the honorarium was enhanced by Rs. 100 and Rs. 50 respectively. Mr. Kumaraswamy said the Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat governments had fixed their retirement age and were disbursing retirement benefits to anganwadi workers and assistants. In Tamil Nadu, the retirement age had been fixed at 60, he said. The Minister had sought details of financial irregularities allegedly committed by the former director of Women and Child Development Sujata in handling distribution of nutritious food in schools.
