Govt. seeks 3,200-crore relief package

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Government on Wednesday sought a special relief package of Rs. 3,200 crore from the Centre for providing assistance to flood-affected people and for the massive restoration work in the wake of extensive damage to infrastructure caused by recent floods in eight districts of the State.

State Relief Minister Kirorilal Meena said here that the memorandum had been sent to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh with the demand for an ex-gratia payment of Rs.1.34 crore to the families of the deceased and detailing the break-up of the expenditure required in various heads.

Mr. Meena said Rs.124.27 crore would be needed for repair and restoration assistance for damaged houses, Rs.33.99 crores for immediate restoration of roads, Rs.53.3 crore for restoration of drinking water supply, Rs.37.11 crore for water resources and Rs.28.77 crore for damaged tanks of Panchayati Raj institutions.

The memorandum has sought Rs.520.65 crore for input subsidy to affected farmers, Rs.106.56 crore for medical and health care and Rs.212.24 crore for veterinary health care for livestock and replacement subsidy of dead animals.

Mr. Meena said the demand for Rs.74.65 crore had been made for restoration of power supply network, Rs.400 crore for miscellaneous things including damage to the mining and relocation of submerged villages and Rs.1,230.08 crore for wage employment to affected families.

As part of extending relief to the flood-afflicted people, Rs.10 crore has been demanded for airdropping of essential items and hiring helicopters, Rs.2 crore for evacuation of marooned people, Rs.10 crore for temporary accommodation, food and clothing and Rs.50 crore for draining of floodwaters in the affected areas.

While Rs. 5 crore has been demanded as cost for search and rescue, Rs. One crore has been mentioned in the memorandum as the cost of clearance of debris.
