Godrej group launches new furniture brand

Group planning to set up manufacturing facilities in Kerala

KOCHI: The Godrej Furniture and Interiors Group (GFIS) is launching new products under the brand name Godrej Interio.

The group is planning to set up manufacturing facilities in Kerala. It would enter into hospital furniture business and launch furniture to support hospitality industry, said Anil Mathur, Chief Operating Officer.

The total turnover of furniture business in the country is estimated to be Rs.15,000 crore. Godrej is reportedly doing business worth Rs.800 crores in the sector. In Kerala, its business is worth about Rs. 40 crores.

The company is expecting a growth of 35 per cent in the State. The market is growing at 20 per cent and the company's furniture division has a growth rate of 30 per cent at the all India level. Modular kitchens and new sofa sets will be introduced in the market.

Special offer for Onam

The company will manufacture products at its own units and also resort to outsourcing. It will introduce special offers for Onam.

These include special discount and scratch cards that offer gold coins for the lucky winners.

Mr.Mathur claimed that the company has matchless expertise in the business.

The R&D wing has been designing furniture suited to the needs of the customer. Apart from Indian designers, the services of foreign experts are being utilised.

The brand Interio is being launched first in Kerala on the occasion of Onam. It will be launched in phases across the country, he said.

It was in 2003 that the two erstwhile divisions of Godrej & Boyce manufacturing Company Limited, namely the Office Furniture Division and Storewel division, were merged to form the Furniture & Interiors Group.
