"Sethu work has little impact on environment"

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: The environmental monitoring committee of the Sethusamudram Ship Channel project on Wednesday said one year after the dredging operations began in the Palk Strait, there had been little environmental impact in the region.

Investigations conducted by the committee showed were there was no major change in the physical, chemical and biological parameters in the dredging area and the dumping site, some 30 km away. The changes were within the tolerance limits, committee chairman S. Kannaiyan told presspersons.

The project, inaugurated in early July last year, had been divided into four parts for dredging.
