WELLINGTON: Fiji has agreed to host this year's summit of Pacific Forum (PIF) leaders in place of Tonga. According to a report by Radio New Zealand International, Fiji's Prime Minister, Laisenia Qarase, said his country has been asked to host the summit and is happy to oblige. The Forum secretary general Greg Urwin said they are grateful to Fiji for agreeing to hold the summit at such short notice. Tonga said it could not host the meeting because of the deteriorating health of its King, Taufa'ahau Tupou IV. Mr. Qarase said he has appointed a Cabinet subcommittee to finalise the details including funding. Assistance has been promised by the Australian and New Zealand Governments. The PIF held its 36th annual summit meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, last year. Xinhua
