CPI (M) team to probe "custodial torture" of party leader

SHIMLA: A three-member delegation of MPs of the Communist Party India (Marxist) will visit Himachal Pradesh on Thursday to probe the alleged custodial torture of the party State secretariat member, Kashmir Singh Thakur, at Bharmaur in Chamba district. The delegation comprises Lok Sabha members Basudev Acharya, who is also Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Railways, and Amitabh Nandy and Rajya Sabha member Tapan Sen. Dr. Thakur, who is also the State secretary of the CITU, is in police custody.

CPI (M) delegations met the Chief Minister and the Director-General of Police on the "torture" of Dr. Thakur, but to no avail, said sources. The party has demanded the suspension of SP and four other officials.
