Easy win for Chemplast

Bangalore: Chemplast Sanmar won the KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament trophy at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday. On the third and concluding day of the final, the Chennai-based outfit registered its nine-wicket victory over Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), with a touch of disdain.

Chasing a mere 32 for victory, Chemplast sent in seamers Tinu Yohannan and T. Kumaran as openers! Kumaran, however, fell for a blob, caught behind off Gaurav Jathar but Tinu true to the spirit of a tail-ender swung his bat around for an unbeaten 19 and along with Petson Mathew (16 n.o.) helped Chemplast win in just 4.3 overs.

Earlier, IOC scored 155 for six in its stipulated 40-over second innings with only opener Cheteshwar Pujara (64) notching up the runs while left-arm spinner Ram Kumar grabbed three wickets.

To add to IOC's woes, opener Mithun Beerala, nursing an injured finger did not bat while skipper Wasim Jaffer, dropped himself down the order and never got a chance to bat.

The scores: IOC 302 in 86 overs and 155 for six in 40 overs (Cheteshwar Pujara 64) lost to Chemplast Sanmar 425 for seven in 90 overs and 35 for one in 4.3 overs. — Principal Correspondent
