Telangana Jana Parishad on conference drive

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Jana Parishad, comprising 12 organisations, has resolved to conduct district-level conferences as part of the agitation to achieve its goal for a separate State. It has decided to hold dharnas on October 2 and 11 before the Collectorates in Telangana and also observe the State Formation day on November 1 as `black day' and organise a Telangana bandh.

These decisions were taken at the first conference of the parishad here on August 26. Kesav Rao Jadav, the newly-elected president, said in a statement issued here on Wednesday that the parishad had already organised conferences in Hyderabad and Warangal districts.

The conference adopted resolutions on the strategies to be adopted for achieving Telangana statehood and on the problems of farmers. It wanted payment of ex-gratia of Rs.3 lakhs each to the families of farmers who either committed suicide or died due to electrocution, waiver of ryot's loans up to Rs.1 lakh and stoppage of work at Polavaram and Pulichintala projects. The conference demanded immediate implementation of the irrigation projects in Telangana region.
