KANNUR: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) will hold its district rally as part of its nationwide campaign against the `pro-imperialist' policies of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, at the Municipal Jawahar Stadium here on Thursday. CPI (M) district secretary M.V. Govindan told a press conference here on Wednesday that the Kannur municipality had given its consent to hold the rally at the stadium following a Government order in this regard. The municipality had earlier denied permission to hold the rally at the stadium citing the council's decision that the recently renovated stadium would be used only for sports events. The decision had triggered a controversy. CPI (M) State secretary Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the rally at 4 p.m.
