Fundraiser to maintain Chinmaya Heritage Centre's building at Chetpet

Chennai: The Chinmaya Heritage Centre will conduct the Chinmaya Cultural Festival, 2006, for three days beginning September 1. It is being organised as a fundraiser to preserve and maintain the 40,000-sqft building at Chetpet, said E.P.G. Nambiar, Secretary-General of the centre.

Talking to presspersons, he said there was a need to create a corpus fund of Rs. 1 crore in two phases for the building. The programme was being organised to achieve the initial target of Rs. 50 lakh in the first phase.

On September 1 evening, the Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, would perform the `Maha Pattabhishekam,' on the epic, Ramayana. More than 40 artistes would participate. On September 2, O.S. Arun and party would present `Bhakti Sandhya.' On the third day, Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi, would present `Jai Bharati.'

The programme would feature Manipuri, Kuchipudi, Mohiniattam, Kathak, Odissi and Bharatanatyam dance recitals. Dancers Madhavi Mudgal, Bharati Shivaji, Guru Jaya Rama Rao and Vanashree, Guru Singhajeet Singh and Charu Sija Mathur, Geeta Chandran and Shovana Narayan would perform. They would present compositions of selected saints.

Sponsorship

Mr. Nambiar said the Trust was seeking support from devotees and well-wishers. The support could be extended through sponsorship for the cultural festival — Rs. 10 lakh for a day's event and from Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 5 lakh for co-sponsorship of a day's event.

A special souvenir containing 365 pages of quotations of saints, statesmen, philosophers and thinkers would be released a few weeks later. Sponsorship for the display banner was Rs. 10,000 and donor passes would cost Rs. 1,000, Rs. 2,000 and Rs. 5,000. The passes would be valid for all three days' programmes.
