Hyderabad: The District Minorities Welfare Department has decided to launch short-term courses to impart training to unemployed minority youth.

Fourteen different trades have been identified for providing free training.

About 1,000 youth will be benefited through these courses, which will commence next month. This was stated by District Minority Welfare Officer Mohd. Iqbal Ali after giving away scholarships to meritorious students at Safdaria Girls High School here on Wednesday.

He said the State Minority Finance Corporation would be roped in to fund the project. The agencies for imparting the training would be finalised shortly.

Scholarships

Earlier, Mr. Ali distributed scholarships of Rs. 85,200 to 192 students for the year 2005-06. Students of 9th and 10th class were given Rs. 500 each and those of 7th and 8th class, Rs. 400 each.

The Government had recently enhanced the amount earmarked for scholarships to Rs. 33 crores. The pre-matric scholarship is raised to Rs. 800 and post-matric to Rs. 2,200, he said.

In his welcome address, Yousuf Ali Mirza, secretary, Safdaria Girls High School, explained the activities of the school. He said the school was set up in 1934 with just seven students and now it has a strength of 1,400.
