Thiruvananthapuram: The City Corporation has revoked the building permit for a high-rise structure under construction within the Fort Heritage Zone. The decision to revoke the permit, which was issued in 2005, was based on a petition filed by the Thiruvananthapuram Citizens Protection Forum before the High Court alleging that the building violated heritage rules and the Detailed Town Planning (DTP) scheme. The permit was issued on April 1, 2005 to L.V.Murali, managing director, Sree Padmanabha Property Developers Private Limited for the construction of a high rise building on the plot opposite the Directorate of Technical Education. In an affidavit filed before the Court, Corporation secretary T.K. Raveendran admitted that the permit was issued by mistake on the assumption that the plot fell outside the heritage zone and the DTP scheme. The Local Administration department had earlier informed the Corporation that the plot was within the heritage zone and hence any construction on the land required the concurrence of the Art and Heritage Commission. The counter affidavit filed by the Government also mentioned that the complex did not conform to the architectural style of the ancient buildings in the area. Mr. Raveendran said further action would be take against the builders.
