BANGALORE: Residents of Jayanagar now have another park in their area. The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP), which has planned to develop 18 parks in the two-km Lakshman Rau Boulevard, has completed work on the third park. Work is going on at the remaining parks. Jayanagar MLA Ramalinga Reddy formally inaugurated the park on Wednesday. The beautifully landscaped park has a musical fountain, a gazebo, a canopy, and a separate play area for children. According to an official in the BMP's Horticulture Department, the two-km stretch of the boulevard is being developed at a cost of Rs. 3 crore. While ornamental saplings have been planted, the civic body plans to grow medicinal plants at the park.
Road renamed
The stretch from Sadashivnagar Police Station to Vinayaka Circle in Aramane Nagar (ward 99) has been named after the late politician Jeevaraj Alva. MLAs R. Roshan Baig and N.L. Narendra Babu unveiled the name plaque on Wednesday. Mr. Babu suggested that in recognition of Jeevaraj Alva's contribution to the city, the BMP should name a layout or an area after him. Leader of the Opposition in the BMP Council B.R. Nanjundappa said the suggestion could be considered after the proposed "Greater Bangalore" Mahanagara Palike was formed. A. Rajendra Rao, corporator, was present.
