PESIT, Sun sign MoU to set up Sun Labs


THE P.E.S. Institute of Technology has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sun Microsystems India Private Ltd. enabling Sun to set up Sun Labs at the PESIT campus. The agreement will provide internship opportunities to eligible students from PESIT, pursing their B.E. or M.E. in Computer Science and Information Science courses.

Under this agreement, Sun will assist the Computer Science Department of PESIT to set up a Special Lab Syllabus for the Computer Architecture and Operating Systems programmes for M. Tech. and B.E.. Sun will participate and conduct the Sun Track Total Student Development programme at PESIT.

Besides, Sun and PESIT will work together on the Sun Faculty Training Initiative, where Sun will train selected professors from PESIT. The faculty trained under this programme will mentor student projects on Sun Technologies. Sun will recognise 20 students from the Computer Science Department with distinction awards every semester.

ESPRIT 2006-07

Esprit, the annual national level fest conducted by the BBM Department of Christ College, will be held on September 1 and 2. With 15 colleges from across the country having participated in the event last year, the department hopes to make it even bigger this year.

"Corporate" being the underlying theme of Esprit, the event aims at creating a feel of the corporate world and all the events are thus directed towards this theme. Among the events lined up for the fest are: Crisis Management, Finance, Stock, Quiz, Marketing, Best Manager and Team Event. The event will be judged by relevant industry experts. This year, the department proposes to add a cultural event too, to help the participants unwind after their business grind.

CORPUS 2006

Kristu Jayanthi College organised "Corpus '06," a two-day book festival recently. A college newsletter "Quadrangle" was released on the occasion.

Seminar

The city-based Mount Carmel College (Autonomous) has organised UGC-sponsored seminar on "Removal of gender bias through social equality for women" on September 1. University Grants Commission deputy secretary and regional head Manju Singh will inaugurate the event. Prof. Gayathri Devi from the Institute of Social and Economic Change (ISEC) will deliver the keynote address.
