TV channel receives letter containing bomb threat

The letter appears to be the work of a mischievous element: Police Commissioner

HUBLI: The office of E-TV Kannada, a private television channel, here has received a letter warning about bomb blasts in major cities in the country, including Hubli and Bangalore.

The letter came by post. On verification, it was found that the letter had been posted from Old Hubli to the office of the private channel, which is situated in Maratha Galli.

The letter begins with the words "From alqaeda lashkaretoiba to etvkannadahubbulle" [From Al Qaeda Lashkar-e-Toiba to E-TV Kannada, Hubli,] and warns of major bomb blasts before January 26, 2008. It even carries a challenge "prevent them if you can". Then there is huge list of various districts in various States of the country. The letter is written in English and there is no space in between words.

When contacted, the Police Commissioner said the letter appeared to be the work of a mischievous element and not be taken seriously.

However, he said that security steps had been strengthened. .
