Yakshadegula celebrates silver jubilee

BANGALORE: Traditional theatre forms are receiving encouragement too. "Yakshadegula" celebrated its silver jubilee at Kannada Sahitya Parishat auditorium with Yakshagana exponent Molahalli Heriya Naik, who is active even at the age of 75, being felicitated.

Yakshadegula secretary K. Mohan recalled how 25 years ago Yakshagana troupes suffered from lack of support and popular appeal.

Renewed iterest

The scenario had changed since then and there had been a resurgence in interest in folk theatre and its traditions, Mr. Mohan said.

"Sudhanva Kaalaga" was presented on the occasion, featuring Heriya Naik who performed with aplomb.
