GULBARGA: The residents of the Dr. Ambedkar Government Hostel for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students on Thursday walked out of their hostels and took out a procession to the Deputy Commissioner's office to stage an indefinite dharna demanding action against the superintendent of the hostel who they claimed had failed to improve the basic amenities in the hostel and had allegedly threatened the residents for seeking better amenities. The residents of the hostel had decided not to withdraw the dharna till senior officials of the district administration visited the hostel and set right affairs in the hostel. The residents, most of whom are pursuing undergraduate courses, said the superintendent of the hostel threatened to "throw them out of the hostel" if they complained about the lack of amenities. The residents said they had complained several times to the district administration seeking repair of the toilets and bathroom, better bedding facilities, improved drinking water facility in the hostel, better quality food and a computer in the hostel, apart from other basic amenities. No senior official from the district administration visited the students on the strike.
