FAST OR SLOW: The automatic signal with timer at the Chellappandian roundabout in Tirunelveli. Photo: A.Shaikmohideen
After the automatic traffic signal at Chellapandian roundabout at Vannarpettai in Tirunelveli was `resurrected' recently and equipped with timer, there is a smooth flow of traffic in this accident-prone busy area. However, the timing given for vehicles moving towards the eastern and western directions is very less even as the duration for halt (red light) on these sides is disproportionately more. Since the movement of vehicles on the Thiruvananthapuram High Road is higher than the vehicular traffic on the Bypass Road, the traffic managers may provide more time for green light and reduce the duration for red light.
