The constitution of Readers' Circles in rural and semi-urban libraries has been playing a catalytic role in making library movement a success in remote areas. They have also been identifying and promoting the skills of students by organising various competitions from time to time. An elocution competition conducted jointly by the Readers' Circle of the Government Branch Library in Thuraiyur, and the Rotary Club of Thuraiyur witnessed the participation of a large number of students from various schools in and around Thuraiyur. K. Kanmani of Sowdambiga Matriculation School, Beulah Priya Rani of Vimala Matriculation School and R. Jenice Aroma from Zamindar Higher Secondary School secured the first prize for the middle, high and higher secondary students respectively. The Assistant Branch Manager, Life Insurance Corporation, S. Vijaya, gave away the prizes to the winners. "There was yet another good news for the library authorities on the occasion when five persons enrolled themselves as patrons of the library", says the president of the Readers' Circle, T. R. Madhavan. The District Library Officer, N. Kesavan, honoured them with a certificate and a prize. The president of the Rotary Club of Thuraiyur, M. Srinivasan, spoke on the importance of library movement.
