Loyola storms into the quarterfinals

MADURAI: Loyola College, Chennai thrashed Thiagarajar Arts College, Madurai 5-0 to enter the quarterfinals of the Rev. Fr. Prince memorial Trophy State-level inter-collegiate football tournament at Arulanadar College, Karumathur near here on Thursday.

Other results: Jamal Mohamed College, Tiruchi bt Alagappa University College of Physical Education, Karaikudi 3-0; St. Joseph's College, Tiruchi bt Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti 3-1 (via tie-breaker).

Double for Senthil

M. Senthil of Pot Black Centre, who had already won the billiards title, won the snooker title also with an all-win record in the super-league in the Madurai District billiards and snooker ranking tournament at the Union Club Billiards Hall on Wednesday.

Khaja of Billiards Kingdom finished runner-up with two wins and R. Sundar of Pot Black Centre finished third with a solitary win.

Finalists spotted

M.S.P. Solai Nadar Matriculation HSS, Dindigul and American College HSS, Madurai will clash for the title in the sixth annual Kalimark K.P. Rajendran-Jayalakshmi Trophy State-level inter-school basketball tournament. Both the teams registered their second successive wins in the semifinal round robin league on Thursday.

TCE triumphs

Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE), Madurai beat K.L.N. College of Engineering, Pottapalayam 3-0 for the title in the Anna University Zone-9 inter-engineering women's table tennis tournament at Raja College of Engineering complex, Madurai on Thursday.

The results: Final: TCE bt KLN C.E. 3-0 (Purnima bt M.N. Jayaramalakshmi 11-8, 11-9, 11-4; Rippu Gupta bt Anjana Sri 11-2, 11-1, 11-1; Kanthini bt A. Amirtha 11-9, 5-11, 13-11, 15-13). Third place: PSNA C.E, Dindigul bt Raja C.E. 3-0. Semifinals: TCE bt PSNA CE 3-1; KLN CE bt Raja EC 3-0.

Double for four

G. Ananth and S. Kaushik of Jeevana School in boys section, T. Abirami of SBOA School and Anunisha of N.S. Matriculation HSS won two titles each in the Madurai Educational District High and Higher Secondary Schools table tennis tournament at Madurai on Wednesday.

Two titles for AUCPE

At Karaikudi, Alagappa University College of Physical Education, won the kabaddi and kho-kho titles in the Alagappa University inter-collegiate women's tournaments at Seethalekshmi Achi College ground, Pallathur near Karaikudi on Wednesday.

Kannan wins u-19 title

S.A. Kannan of Muthiah Alagappa school won the boys u-19 title in the Devakottai Educational District Hight, Higher and Matriculation schools chess tournament, organised by Maharishi Vidya Mandir and Sivagangai District Chess Association, at Karaikudi recently.
