Kranthi Kumar the star performer

HYDERABAD: Kranthi Kumar was the star performer for Indian Airlines in it's thumping 15-2 win against Tarabund XI in a lopsided encounter in the A-2 Division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here on Thursday.

Winger Kranthi struck six times, brothers Suresh Kumar, Mukesh Kumar and Anil Kumar twice each and Srikanth Reddy, Dheeraj and Mohd Sabir once each for the winner. For the loser, Shaikh Mahaboob and Rakesh Kumar reduced the margin.

10-wkt haul by Venkatesh

Medium-pacer Sai Venkatesh returned with a match-haul of 10 wickets for R. Dayanand XI in it's drawn encounter against VST in the A-Division (two-day) league cricket championship here.

In another match, V. Vamshi Ram (143) helped Continental draw it's encounter against Gemini Friends.

The scores: A-Division (two-day) league: Gemini Friends 308 (G. Rohit Kumar 87, S. Vijay Bharath 63, Sridhar 80 not out, Shravan four for 47) drew with Continental 311 for eight (V. Vamshi Ram 143, Sumet Singh 91).

R. Dayanand 176 (Satyanarayana 50, Taranjeeth 62) and 199 for eight (Sundeep Rajan 65, Satyanarayana 47, Aaron Paul 57 not out, Shakeer four for 58) drew with VST 87 for nine (Sai Venkatesh six for 38) and 105 for eight (Sai Venkatesh four for 22).

SV varsity wins

Sri Venkateshwara University defeated Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam 2-0 in the tennikoit final of the AP Universities non-teaching employees sports meet being held in Tirupati, according to information received here.

Satish Kumar scored a 9-4 win against Rama Raju in the Sunil Castings-JHIC inter-club tennis tournament here.

Group II selections

State-level Group II selections in six disciplines — swimming, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting & bodybuilding, wrestling and powerlifting — will be held on September 7 instead of the original schedule, according to a press release from the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh. Inter-Services athletics

The 56th inter-Services athletics championship will be organised under the aegis of Artillery Centre (Golconda) from September 5 to 8 at GMC Balayogi Stadium (Gachibowli) near her, according to a press release.

More than 250 swimmers will compete for top honours which will feature some of the internationals from the Army, Air Force and Navy.
