BCCI's official rating system launched

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday launched the `BCCI Official Ratings & Awards' for the 2006-07 season.

"The domestic players' performances go unnoticed. We have to highlight it and reward them. There will be an award function in Mumbai at the end of the season in April 2007," said Lalit Modi, Vice-President BCCI, on Thursday.

The BCCI Ratings will cover performances of senior players, domestic players, under-19 and women players. The ratings for international cricket will cover the following categories for both Tests and ODIs: best batsman, best bowler, best fielder, best all-rounder, best opening batsman, most consistent/reliable player, best innings of the year.

While the on-field performances and other cricketing parameters will determine the ratings in the above categories, a rating based on voting by the public will determine the player of the year (Test and ODI), my favourite player, most stylish player and master blaster of the year in the popular category. — Special Correspondent
