Gibbs will visit India, says coach Mickey Arthur

Durban: South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs, wanted by the Delhi Police for interrogation in the match-fixing scandal, will visit India for the Champions Trophy to sort out his situation once and for all, coach Mickey Arthur has said.

``This is one of the reasons we are leaving for India a little earlier than was originally planned. We want Herschelle's situation to be sorted out completely before serious cricket begins,'' Arthur said.

The interest around Gibbs follows reports over the past few days that he was keen to travel to India despite the fear of police interrogating him about the match-fixing scandal of 2000.

Police want Gibbs and spin bowler Nicky Boje to answer certain questions as their names figure in the taped conversation between former South African skipper Hansie Cronje and Indian bookmakers during South Africa's tour of India in 1999-2000.

Gibbs has been quoted here as saying that if he was selected he would like to travel to India with his lawyer. — PTI
