Attacks by U.S., Israel criticised

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: Johan De Tavernier, Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, has said that the U.S. attack on Iraq as well as Israel's attack on Lebanon cannot be justified.

Prof. Tavernier was delivering an international lecture on "The impact of recent terrorist attacks on western society: A perspective from Christian ethics,'' organised by the Chair of Christian Studies and Research at Seminar Complex in Calicut University at Thenhipalam, near here, on Wednesday.

War against injustice could be accepted only if it was done with a justifiable motive and as a last resort with the approval of bodies such as the UN.

He said that India need to be given permanent membership with veto powers in UN Security Council in the wake of the plurality of contemporary world.

The function was earlier inaugurated by Kozhikode Bishop Joseph Kalathiparambil.

Chair coordinator Paul Pulikkan spoke.
