KOZHIKODE : The Kozhikode Secondary Switching Area (SSA) will get `phone on demand' status before March 31, 2007, C.K. Radhakrishnan, Principal General Manager (PGM), Telecom, BSNL Kozhikode, has said. Talking to presspersons here on Thursday, Mr. Radhakrishnan said at present there were 4,18, 900 wired lines, 68, 250 WLL connections and 1,75,508 GSM mobile lines in the SSA. The new customer service centres for landline and mobile would be opened at Silk Road during 2006-07. Mobile Customer Supporting Representatives would be commissioned at Kunnamangalam, Balusserry, Thamarasserry, Koyilandy and TRA Building, Kozhikode, during the same period. Complete city coverage and also villages having more than 2,000 population with regard to Cellular Mobile Service (GSM) would be achieved under the Phase IV by sanctioning 70 Base Transmitting Stations (BTS). Also, complete rail coverage would be achieved under the Phase 5.1 by sanctioning 65 BTS. A total of 43 telephone exchanges in the SSA would be expanded. Thirtyeight WLL BTS would be installed. Ten to 20 per cent rebate would be granted to defaulters of more than two years, applicable from August 14 to November 13. Another scheme of free EPABX could be utilised by firms\institutions\housing colonies having 50 or more extensions. There was no initial investment or Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC). Installation would be carried out by M\s Coral Telecom Limited in collaboration with BSNL, the PGM said. The new scheme of reduction of starter pack\activation charges under pre-paid cellular services would take effect from September 1. According to this package, activation charge would be reduced from Rs.200 to Rs.100 and talk time worth Rs.30 was offered. Also revision of tariff in respect of post-paid plans under cellular services would take effect from September 1. Instead of loyalty discount, monthly free calls worth Rs.60 for plan 225, Rs.100 for Plan 325 and Rs.300 for Plan 525 was allowed within BSNL network.
