CHENNAI:
Four congested pockets in the heart of Chennai will have flyovers soon.
They will come up at the congested junctions at Turnbulls Road-Pasumpon Muthuramalingam Thevar Road; Usman Road-Kodambakkam High Road; G.N. Chetty Road-Tirumalai Road and Usman Road-Doraiswamy Road junctions.
The cost of these projects is expected to be around Rs. 58.52 crore.
The Corporation Council, which met on Thursday, cleared the projects lying in cold storage for several years and were, more recently, the centre of a controversy between AIADMK and DMK councillors.
It approved a special resolution tabled by Deputy Mayor R. Thiagarajan to pave the way for the construction. None of the AIADMK councillors were present when the resolution was tabled as they had been evicted earlier.
Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin had evinced interest in reviving the projects as soon as he took charge. However, the Works Committee of the Corporation had not approved the projects at three consecutive meetings.
