ANANTAPUR: Thirteen persons including two women were injured when two groups clashed during the Ganesh idol immersion at Dharmapuram village in Pedda Pappur mandal of the district on Thursday. According to the information reaching here, the two groups hurled bombs at each other after an altercation over the bursting of crackers in the immersion procession. The groups led by Nageswara Rao and Nageswara Naidu, both relatives, were at loggerheads since the recent gram panchayat elections, in which Nageswara Rao was unanimously elected sarpanch. Though both the groups owe allegiance to Minister for Panchayat Raj J.C. Diwakar Reddy the Nageswara Naidu group has developed a grudge against the other group for pocketing the sarpanch post. On Thursday, the problem started when one group objected to bursting of crackers by another group. An altercation followed and the two groups resorted to hurling of bombs on each other. In all, nine persons of Nageswara Rao group and four of Nageswara Naidu group including two women were injured in the incident. All the injured were admitted to the Government Hospital at Tadipatri for treatment. One of the injured, Shankar, was referred to the General Hospital here as his condition was serious.
