University mulls new science courses, says Vice-Chancellor A. Rama Rao

ANANTAPUR: Sri Krishnadevaraya University (SKU) administration has been taking measures to provide the necessary infrastructure for its new College of Engineering and Technology with help of philanthropists, according to its Vice-Chancellor A. Rama Rao.

Talking to newspersons on Thursday, he said that infrastructure for the college was being developed at an estimated cost of Rs. 4 crores.

Low fee structure

All those who donate for the cause in the drought-hit district would get income-tax exemption under Section 80 G (5)(vi) of the I-T Act, he said. Sai Kaleshwar of Penukonda, Rural Development Trust, Ananthaiah of Sapthagiri Camphor Industries and others had donated so far, he noted.

Industrialist T.G. Venkatesh had donated Rs. 50 lakhs for the construction of an indoor stadium at SKU PG Centre at Kurnool.

Keeping in view the severe drought conditions in the district, the university had evolved a very low fee structure for B.Tech course, he said.

Students who had secured admission in the college through EAMCET counselling by paying a fee of Rs. 26,000 would require to pay college fee of Rs. 4,890 at the time of admission.

The university had been planning to introduce new science courses for improving employment opportunities of students of the area, he said.

Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was likely to inaugurate the silver jubilee celebrations of the university in the second week of September, the Vice-Chancellor said. Rector of the university C.R. Visveshwar Rao said 21st Century Gurukul would function from next academic year.

Registrar R. Ramkrishna Reddy, University College Principal C.R. Reddy and others were present.
