HYDERABAD: Opposition parties on Thursday accused the ruling Congress of preventing important public issues from coming up for debate in the just-concluded monsoon session of the Assembly. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Leader of the Opposition, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said the Government made every attempt to escape from the debate on public issues and kept seeking adjournment of the House on some pretext or the other. Since the response from the Government was not convincing, the party would take these issues to the people.
`Undemocratic act'
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) floor leader G.Vijayarama Rao described the suspension of TRS members for four consecutive days as an "undemocratic act." He demanded the Chief Minister's resignation as the Supreme Court had reportedly made adverse comments in the case relating to the grant of parole to Congress leader Gouru Venkata Reddy. CPI (M) floor leader N.Narasimhaiah said half the days were lost due to the disruption in the House. He dubbed as "eyewash" the appointment of the Cabinet Sub Committee to look into various aspects of the Outer Ring Road project.
Understanding alleged
CPI floor leader Ch.Venkata Reddy expressed anguish that important issues were not discussed due to uproarious scenes and urged the Congress and TDP not to repeat such situations in future. G. Kishen Reddy (BJP) alleged that there appeared to be prior understanding among the Congress, TDP and TRS to stall and adjourn the House. The Government pushed its agenda and got 15 bills passed but failed to take up the people's agenda.
