Women protest against war

Staff Reporter

`Violence causing untold misery to many'

Bangalore: A "women in black" vigil was organised near the Mahatma Gandhi statue to protest against the war in various parts of the world and to bring attention to the need for peace, here on Thursday. The vigil was organised by representatives of Vimochana, a forum for women's rights and other like-minded organisations. The protesters were seen holding banners with slogans decrying the bombing of Lebanon and the violence in Sri Lanka and Kashmir.

The group holds "women in black" vigils every Thursday to focus on different issues that affect women and society in general. "The focus this Thursday is on women against all wars. The unrest in Palestine is causing untold misery for thousands of innocent lives just as the violence in Sri Lanka and the terror in Kashmir. We are focussing on the wars within our homes," said a representative.
