New Director-General for EME

NEW DELHI: Lt.-General Arvind Mahajan will take over as Director-General of the Corps of Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (EME) on Friday. He replaces Lt.-General V.C. Jain on his retirement.

Gen. Mahajan has held several regimental, staff and command appointments over the years within as well as outside the EME.

New D-G for NCC

NEW DELHI: Lt-General Prakash S. Chaudhary has taken over as Director-General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC). Gen. Chaudhary took part in the 1971 Bangladesh war and was part of the Rajputana Rifles battalion in numerous battles. He has also served at the National Defence Academy in Pune and the Indian Military Academy in Dehra Dun. He has been awarded six times for acts of gallantry and distinguished service.

U.S. team meets Mayor

NEW DELHI: A filmmaking team from the United States along with 21 children belonging to the poor strata of society called on Delhi Mayor Farhad Suri at Town Hall here on Thursday. The team is here to teach children the techniques of filmmaking.

Mr. Suri urged the visitors to go round various municipal primary schools in the Capital and make a film. The film shot by the children can be viewed on the Internet.

Fewer train coaches

NEW DELHI: Due to maintenance work during night hours at Lucknow station yard from September 1 to 11, Northern Railway has decided to reduce five second-class chair cars from the Gomti Express during this period. As a result, the train will run with just 18 coaches between September 1 and 11.

Passengers who have already booked tickets on the train will be accommodated in other coaches. Northern Railway has advised passengers to check their reservation status before boarding the train.

Focus on rolling stock

NEW DELHI: The Institute of Rolling Stock Engineers in association with the Centre for Transportation Research and Management organised a seminar on "Management and operation of privately-owned rolling stock" at National Rail Museum here on Wednesday.

Addressing the seminar, Minister of State for Railways R. Velu said 14 firms had shown interest in running container trains on public-private partnership, 10 on a pan-India basis and four on a regional basis to meet the growing freight traffic demand.

Claim awarded

New Delhi: Twenty years after he was crippled for life in an accident, the Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal awarded Ashok Kumar, a former employee of the IOC, a compensation of Rs 72.51 lakh on Thursday.
