CHENNAI : The Union Government will bring out a stamp in honour of director and studio owner L.V. Prasad, said L.V Prasad's son Ramesh Prasad at a function organised by the Cine Technicians' Association of South India here on Thursday when veterans received life-time achievement awards.

Mr. Ramesh Prasad of Prasad Studios said the Government would release the stamp in honour of L.V. Prasad on September 5, which also marks the 50th year of Prasad's entry into the film industry. The stamp release function is to be held in Hyderabad.

The chief guest of the evening, director Adoor Gopalakrishnan, praised the various award winners.

"By honouring the veterans of the South Indian film industry we are honouring ourselves and we show that we respect their hard work. It is important for all of us not to forget the past as the present is built only on the past. I congratulate the various award winners of this year," Mr. Gopalakrishnan said.

Director K. Viswanath recalled his younger days when he used to work with veteran director Ramnoth, a doyen in the industry. "I was working as a sound recordist for the first time in `Thai Ullam' directed by Ramnoth. As he started as a cinematographer, Ramnoth knew each and every shot of the film."

Among the awards given away were those named after Ramnoth, L.V. Prasad, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, M.G. Ramachandran, K. Subrahmanyam and AVM.

The award winners were felicitated by dignitaries of the film industry including K.C.N. Chandrasekar, A. Kothandaramaiyah, Dr.C.G. Rajendra Babu and Devayani.
