HYDERABAD: The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad will provide trained rag pickers with two sets of uniforms, slippers and Rs. 100 a month for maintenance of tricycle rickshaw to transport garbage. Commissioner Sanjay Jaju announced this after expressing satisfaction over the functioning of the rag pickers in circle six on Thursday. The rag pickers told him that they were covering 200 houses everyday and with Rs. 10 collected from each house, they were earning Rs. 2, 000 a month.
Fines
Later, he inspected Secunderabad zone and reviewed works related to sanitation, engineering, town planning, etc., and instructed the health and sanitation wing to get the debris cleared. He called for imposition of a fine of Rs. 200 to Rs. 300 on those misusing roads and creating inconvenience to the general public. Corporators who attended the review meeting complained about non-functioning of streetlights, cellar violations, illegal constructions, and other civic subjects. Mr. Jaju also ordered the Executive Engineer of division six to report to the Chief Engineer for not complying with the orders for construction of a public toilet at Patel Nagar slum.
