Youths held with bomb

Thiruvananthapuram: The Rural police have arrested two youths in connection with a series of incidents of arson in Kazhakuttom and Menamkulam areas this year. Circle Inspector, Kazhakuttom, A. Pramod Kumar, identified the accused as Sunil Kumar alias "Beedi" Sunil (28) and Subash (28).

They were arrested from a lodge in Murukumpuzha in the district. Mr. Kumar said a highly lethal country bomb and two swords were seized from the accused at the time of their arrest. Explosive experts, who inspected the bomb, found it to be packed with glass shards and small nails.

The plastic coated bomb was designed to explode when thrown against a hard surface, an official said. The CI said the accused were part of a gang involved in the making of country bombs of the type commonly used by criminalsThey were produced before the court and remanded to 14 days in judicial custody. — Staff Reporter

Onasadya to be served on flights

Thiruvananthapuram: All those boarding the outbound flights of Air-India and the low cost carrier, Air-India Express from Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumbassery and Karipur airports from September 4 to 6 have the opportunity to savour the traditional feast, Air-India style, this year too. Gulf-based Qatar Airways also plans to serve Onasadya abroad the flights that depart from the State capital during the harvest festival, according to district sales manager Jaya Prakash Nair. — Staff Reporter
