Man shot at
According to a petition submitted to the Uttar Pradesh Director-General of Police dated August 9, Shatrughan Singh said his brother Jai Shankar was shot at and injured by some criminal elements on August 8. "Despite my petitions to the Chief Justice of India, the Prime Minister's Office and the Union Home Ministry regarding the threats, no concrete action was taken against the culprits," he said. In a petition to the Chief Justice of India and the Prime Minister's Office this April, Mr. Singh had submitted that his younger brother, Jai Shankar, was handicapped and had been running a mini-bus since September 2005, with an authorised permit. But a man with a criminal record who ran a Tata-407 on the same route allegedly threatened him with dire consequences if he did not change the route of his vehicle.
