Pluto's demotion

The article "Pluto's demotion, science and superstition" (Aug. 31) espouses the need to cultivate a scientific temper. The responsibility of educationists in devising a system based on inculcation of scientific temper, from the primary stage, cannot be overemphasised. The present system hardly inspires a scientific temper. Even scientists and doctors fall prey to miracles. The education system should be overhauled to evolve a society with a scientific temper, which will contribute to the eradication of superstition.

Kasim Sait,
Chennai

Science has no boundaries; theories are always subject to changes. Pluto is so elusive that in my 15 years of planet-gazing sessions with an astro-club based in Mumbai, I could spot it only once.
