NEW DELHI: A four-day international exhibition showcasing a wide array of products from the processed food industry opened at Pragati Maidan here on Thursday. The exhibition, "Food and Technology Expo-2006", is focusing on the latest technologies used in the processing of cereals, pulses, spices, dairy, bakery and confectionary products. It is also displaying a wide range of food products and their derivatives. Organised by the NNS Group, the exhibition that has attracted over 120 companies of national and international repute is aimed at helping domestic companies to know more about the recent developments taking place in the international food sector. According to NNS Group Managing Director Rajesh Gupta, the exhibition -- supported by the Export Inspection Council of India, the Union Commerce and Industry Ministry, the Federation of All-India Rice Millers' Association, the All-India Food Processors' Association and the Federation of Biscuit Manufacturers' Association of India -- is also focusing on ancillary industries like storage and banking. NNS Group Chairman Kesar Singh Gupta said the event holds immense significance in leveraging the growth of the Indian food industry. "Its main aim is to popularise new food products and beverages among the masses and provide an effective platform to people associated with food trade to form new business ventures and increase their knowledge and expertise on the latest processing technologies,'' he added.
