CHENNAI: SPIC-TNCA took 46 minutes on the third morning to wrap things up, and win the Mindteck-Buchi Babu tournament here at ICL-Gurunanak. Needing three wickets for victory on Friday, SPIC-TNCA completed the formalities in 10 overs. Combined Districts scored 41 runs in those 10 overs, reducing the margin of defeat an iota to an innings and 20 runs. S. Suresh Kumar top-scored with 53 from 62 balls (8x4) after resuming on his overnight score of 25. He was caught at fine-leg when he top-edged M.R. Shrinivas, who finished with six in the match.
Badrinath pleased
SPIC-TNCA skipper S. Badrinath, whose first innings hundred set the stage for the win, said, "This is a good start to the season. I'm encouraged by the bowling of our young spinners Suresh and Ashwin. That's one department we needed to improve. The pacers, Shrinvas and Tamil Kumaran, bowled well." On scoring back-to-back hundreds in the semifinal and the final, Badrinath said, "Yes, it's been good for me personally. I'm in good form, and just looking to keep my touch going." Chief guest P.A. Ananthanarayanan, CEO, Mindteck (India), gave away the prizes. The scores: SPIC-TNCA 415 beat Combined Districts 225 and 170 in 33 overs (V. Devendran 41, S. Suresh Kumar 53, C. Suresh five for 49).
