ANTI UNITED STATES: Supporters of Left parties participate in a human chain in Kolkata on Friday to protest against America's strategy against Lebanon.

Kolkata : In a show of solidarity for the struggle against war and imperialism `human chains' were formed in different parts of West Bengal from 1.40 p.m. to 1.45 p.m., on Friday, in response to a call by the ruling Left Front party.

On this day in 1939 Poland had been attacked by Nazi Germany triggering the Second World War.

Slogans raised

Slogans were raised against war and the "imperialist designs" of the United States.

Left Front leaders addressed congregations in different parts of the city and the districts on the day observed as "Anti-Imperialism Day."

Chairman of the Left Front Committee, Biman Bose, vowed that the struggle against imperialism would continue for the restoration of peace in those parts of the world where imperialist forces were at work.

Attacks condemned

Leaders condemned the attack on Palestinians and the people of Lebanon by Israel supported by the United States. Demands for a halt to such activity and the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq were raised.

No power in the world had the authority to disturb peace and deny the people of those countries being targeted by the imperialist forces their right to live in peace and harmony, Mr. Bose said.
