Withdrawal of support soon, says TRS chief

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao said here on Friday that the withdrawal of the party's support to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government was a mere formality which would be completed on his return to New Delhi soon.

Briefing reporters about his two-day meeting with senior party leaders here, Mr. Rao said he held back his letter withdrawing support after resigning from the Union Cabinet as he wanted to inform the UPA partners before parting ways. He would meet leaders of the UPA constituents in New Delhi before handing over the letter to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. "It is just a technical matter."

Yatra schedule

The TRS chief also announced his decision to leave on a yatra throughout the Telangana region to canvass support for statehood for the region. Releasing the schedule of his party's action programme, he said it would be launched with a huge rally in Siddipet town in Medak district on September 8.

About 50 artistes would also set out on a month-long tour to stage performances in all major villages from September 15. Separate meetings would be organised for the student community. The initial phase of the awareness programme would conclude with a congregation of Telangana Jagarana Sena volunteers.

Mr. Rao said the people would be informed through the programmes how the TRS had suffered a setback in the Congress-led dispensation at the Centre and in the State. On its part, the TRS had not failed in vigorously pursuing the separate Telangana demand.
