Chhattisgarh in last four

KOLKATA: Chhattisgarh boys drubbed defending champion Madhya Pradesh 63-27 to move into the semifinals of the 33rd sub-junior National basketball championships at the Netaji Indoor Stadium here on Friday.

The quarterfinals also saw Andhra Pradesh, which raised hopes by beating MP in the group league stage on Thursday, losing to Delhi. Punjab defeated Manipur to become the third team to book a last four spot.

In the girls' section, defending champion Chhattisgarh and last year's runner-up Tamil Nadu scored contrasting wins to move into the semifinals.

The results:

Boys (quarterfinals): Delhi 70 bt AP 26; Chhattisgarh 63 bt MP 27; Punjab 51 bt Manipur 38. Classification (9th to 12th place): UP 65 bt Jharkhand 52; Orissa 60 bt TN 34.

Girls (quarterfinals): Chhattisgarh 57 bt Karnataka 18; Maharashtra 50 bt MP 41; UP 41 bt Haryana 38; TN 40 bt Punjab 32. Classification (9th to 12th place): Kerala 24 bt Jharkhand 15; Orissa 52 bt Delhi 35. — Principal Correspondent
