New Delhi teams start in style

NEW DELHI: The two teams representing New Delhi began their campaign in style winning their opening pool matches in the inter-State squash championship at the Delhi Gymkhana Club here on Friday.

In a pool D league, New Delhi defeated Uttaranchal `B' 3-0 with Amandeep Singh, Dhruv Dhavan and Sohail Kapur registering victories in straight games. In Pool `A', New Delhi `B' team won 2-1 against Chandigarh. Satwik Joshi was stretched to five games before Shiv Dhavan provided the winning touch.

In other matches, Tamil Nadu `B' won against Haryana, Services defeated Chandigarh `B' and Maharashtra beat Uttaranchal 3-0.

The results: Pool A: New Delhi `B' 2 bt Chandigarh 1 (Satwik Joshi bt Puneet Singh 9-3, 9-6, 4-9, 9-10, 9-4, Shiv Diwan bt Khushwant Singh 10-8, 8-10, 9-3, 9-4, Uday Das lost to Vikas Nayyar 9-5, 2-9, 4-9, 7-9).

Pool B: Tamil Nadu `B' bt Haryana 3-0 (Karan Malik bt A. P. Vashisht 9-1, 9-0, 9-1, Ramit Tandon bt Paramjeet Gill 9-0, 9-2, 9-0, Ravi Dixit bt Neeraj Khatri 9-0, 9-1, 9-1).

Services bt Chandigarh `B' 3-0 (A. Chowdhary bt Sahil Grewal 9-0, 9-1, 9-1, Vikas Jangra bt Sanampreet Shekon 9-1, 9-1, 9-3, Shakti Singh bt Abhilakshay 9-2, 9-0, 9-1).

Pool C: Maharashtra bt Uttaranchal 3-0 (Deepak Moolani bt Vinayak Bajoria 9-6, 9-1, 9-1, Ravneet Singh bt Rajnush Agarwal 9-0, 9-4, 9-2, Harjinder Singh bt Chirag Nangia 9-2, 9-2, 9-3).

Rajasthan bt Uttar Pradesh `B' 3-0 (Sami Johnson bt Vijay Shank Dubey 9-0, 9-2, 9-4, Gautam Sharma bt Saurabh Agarwal 9-0, 9-0, 9-0, Gunraj Singh bt Saquib 9-0, 9-0, 9-0).

Pool D: West Bengal bt Uttar Pradesh 3-0 (Nikhil Khemka bt Om Shankar Dubey 9-3, 9-3, 9-1, Gautam Das bt Abhishek Jai Singh 9-7, 9-2, 9-6, Deepak Agarwal bt Hari Narayan Tripathi 9-7, 9-5, 9-6).
