Alappuzha restricted

KOTTAYAM: A sparkling unbeaten 145 by Bibin K. Oommen went in vain as Thiruvananthapuram bundled out Alappuzha for a paltry total in its first innings on the first day of an under-22 inter-district cricket tournament match at the Medical College ground on Friday.

Barring Bibin, none of the Alappuzha batsmen could get going against a steady Thiruvananthapuram attack. At stumps, Thiruvananthapuram was sitting pretty at 52 for one after dismissing its rival for 195.

At the Nehru Stadium, Kollam was in command after bowling out Kottayam for 152 in its first innings. Medium-pacer S. Zulfikar was the wrecker-in-chief with six for 36. In replay, Kollam was 56 for two at stumps.

The scores: Alappuzha 195 in 53.4 overs (Bibin K. Oommen 145 not out, B. Anoop three for 31) vs Thiruvananthapuram 52 for one in 12 overs (Joseph Lawrence 30 not out).

Kottayam 152 in 61.3 overs (C.K. Manish Kumar 36 not out, Zulfikar six for 36) vs Kollam 56 for two in 27 overs.
