LIC celebrates 50 years

NEW DELHI: Life Insurance Corporation of India on Friday completed 50 years of service to the nation.

On the occasion, LIC Chairman T.S. Vijayan conveyed his gratitude and appreciation to the holders of over 18-crore policies for reposing their trust in the Corporation. He also expressed his gratitude to the Government and the regulator and attributed success of the Corporation to the overwhelming response of policyholders and efforts of the employees and agents.

LIC was formed on September 1, 1956, as an amalgamated entity after the nationalisation of 245-odd private insurance companies.

New Director-General for Coast Guard

NEW DELHI: Vice Admiral Rustom Faramroze Contractor has taken over as the new Director-General of Coast Guard. A specialist in navigation and direction, he has held important operational and staff appointments both afloat and ashore. He has also had the rare distinction of commanding INS Rajput, INS Ranvijay and the aircraft carrier INS Virat.

New Adjutant-General for the Army

NEW DELHI: Lt-General Thomas Mathew took over as Adjutant-General of the Indian Army here on Friday. In his new appointment, he will look after service conditions, manpower requirements, military justice, welfare housing projects and rehabilitation of personnel and widows.

Gen. Mathew has taken part in Bangladesh operations and in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu & Kashmir and the North-East.

Award for NDPL

NEW DELHI: North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL) has bagged the "CII-Exim Bank Business Excellence Award-2005" for its "strong commitment to excel". At a function here on Thursday, NDPL Managing Director Anil Sardana and NDPL Executive Director (Finance) Sunil Wadhwa received the award from Union Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal.

NDPL is the first power distribution utility to have bagged the prestigious award.
